90 degree head on the grease gun would do wouldn't it?
I think there are 7 zerks on the 500s', 3 on the deck, each rear wheel and each front wheel.

I have a X500 with a 48" Edge deck and my spindles have a zerk fitting right on top. I simply lower the deck as far down as it will go and reach in and attach my grease gun coupler.

Can you elaborate on the difficulty you are having?

I cannot reach the center spindle. The angle head may work. Tried a flexible hose and cannot keep it on.

I use a grease gun with a flexible hose and a grease coupler like this:

Workforce® 3-Jaw Coupler with 360° Swivel - Tractor Supply Co.

Also don't forget about the zerk on the front axle center pivot point.

Buckskin, I have a Craftsman whose center zerk cannot be seen, only felt. I clean it and grease it with a regular pump handle grease gun and flex hose attachment from the left side on one knee. The hose fitting is guided on vertical with the left hand while the right hand pushes down the handle which has been cocked. It's a bitch , but improves with practice. Make sure you are square on the zerk-no grease out side zerk. I feel your pain and mess.
