Hello

I have a gravely zt1740 that misfired while mowing and now it refuses to start. It cranks and cranks but doesn't fire up. I've swapped the ignition coil and the spark plug along with doing an oil change and both filters. It is a kohler courage 17 hp engine any and all advice would greatly be appreciated.

Your engine needs spark, gasoline, air, and compression to start. Combine these features with the correct timing and it will run. First I would do a compression check. Then check that the spark plug is sparking. Then I would take the choke off and squirt a little gas into the carb and try starting it. Usually a backfire indicates too lean a mixture or the timing is off. Good luck.
