I put on a new canister assembly on Kubota engine, bleed lines, tries to start but will not run. Any body have any thoughts on this. I said this was runny me crazy. Checking into nearest insane asylum pretty soon. Thanks for any help.

Yes, it's down on the corner of 9th and Broadway, called Booga-Booga Meadows. I find cutting out paper dolls to be quite relaxing. Looking forward to a new friend.

I'm not acquainted with a 'canister assembly.' What is it?

Diesel engines only need two things to run--Hot air and fuel.

Please describe the steps you took to bleed the system and how you knew the system was indeed bled.

Thanks for reply. I like your sense of humor. The old filter with bowl was plastic. I thought it may have a pin hole in it. New one is similar except the filter is metal, looks like an oil filter. The new one has one bleed bolt, old one had two. After the new filter was full I opened the bleed bolt on the injector pump. While cranking fuel comes out of bleed bolt and engine will start while bleeding injector pump. When I tighten bleed bolt while running it will die. The part number on new filter is 04015224-43010 fuel assembly. Thanks very much for answering, I'm going back to cutting paper dolls.

Is the 'bleed bolt' the same as the one on the pictures I sent you? If it is, leave it open a little longer (with the engine running) and see if you can increase engine rpm. Shut the bleed screw gradually and reopen it if the engine starts to die again. I would do this for a minute or two and see if it will eventually keep running with the bleed screw shut.

The bleed bolt on the injector is the same as picture you sent. The fuel filter in the picture look the same as the New one I bought. Might have found something, Instructions in the picture says bleed the new filter by unscrewing bolt on top. I did that when I first put it on and cranked it and nothing came out. I thought that was strange. When I unscrew
bolt at injector fuel comes out and it will run until I screw bleed bolt back in and it will die. Could the fuel pump be bad even though I'm getting fuel at the injector? Don't give up on me. I need your help. I also have new fuel lines coming. Will change them all. Thanks again for all the help. I dreamed I was cutting paper dolls all nite.

There's a difference between and 'injector' and an 'injection pump.'

I'm having a hard time visualizing what you are doing and what you've changed on your mower.

First, you've replaced the factory fuel filter arrangement, which was a primary/secondary filter system, with a spin-on filter like the one shown in the picture of the L-3000 I posted? Is it located between your lift pump and the injection pump? If so, once you see fuel come out the bleed screw on that filter housing, the bleed screw needs to remain shut from that point on.

Then you open the bleed screw on the injection pump. You may also have to 'crack' an injector line open and have someone crank the engine until fuel appears at this loose fitting. Tighten it. You may have to repeat this with a second injector. At some point the engine will start and clear the remaining air out of the system and you can shut the bleed screw on the injection pump. It will run rough until all the air is gone.

If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what to try next.

I have bled the injector pump and injectors. Lots of fuel comes out of injector pump, not much out of injectors. I have changed the main filter and it looks just like the one in the picture you sent. Is there any way I can call you or you call me? My cell # 479-629-2563. I don't know why fuel will not come out of bleed bolt on top of new filter. How do I test fuel pump? When I bought the new filter at the grasshopper dealer I spoke to the mechanic there and he said the fuel pump rarely goes bad. On the injectors should I open 1 at a time or 2 or all 3? Thanks for the help.

Is the fuel tank below the fuel filter? If it is, you'll have to have the fuel pump running to get fuel to come out of that bleed screw on the fuel filter.

If you can't get fuel to come out of that bleed screw, there is something wrong between that point and the tank.

edit: I returned the phone number to his thread. If anyone has ideas they want to share about how to get this Kubota engine running again, please chime in or call cambre on the above number. We talked on the phone and think the problem might be a fuel line leaking air into the system.

Good morning everybody. I changed all the fuel lines on my Grasshopper mower and bled system. Not much change, runs good for 10 minutes then dies. Seems the air in injector pump is hard to get out. When it dies it's like you turned the key off. I would think it would sputter and run rough before it died. Must be a lot of air hitting top of cylinders to kill it so quick. Any thoughts, thanks. Fuel pump is working fine.

cpurvis, I did not see any holes or cracks in the old fuel lines. One had a place on it where the rubber had wore down to the next layer in the hose. It's hard to type with a straight jacked on.

cambre, I'm at a loss. Was it idling for ten minutes or running at full speed? Does it have an electric fuel shut off to kill the engine?

I was letting it run at fast idle, about 1/4 throttle to wide open with blades turning to put a load on it. I would cut grass while it's running to put more load on it but if it dies away from the shop it's very hard to get back to the shop. cpurvis, I'm at a loss to. I use my backhoe to get it back to the shop but it blew a hydraulic hose 2 days ago and its in the boom. I don't know how hard it will be to line up piston end back in boom to put pin back in.
