I have a cub cadet I just bought has a kohler cv730 26 hp vtwin engine someone put kerosene in I got that straightedn out and now It runs acouple minuits and starts blowing black smoke and loading up then quits and gas is leaking out the carb ...the first thing I did is get a kit and rebuild the carb new needle and float gaskets ect ...as soon as I started it up its doing the same thing again sometimes will runa few minutes b4 it does it ...then wont start ..let it cool down it will start but spews gas and floods out I don't think its the needle and seat or float and help appreciated I am stumped

You are going to have to take the carb apart again. The symptoms you describe indicate that the float needle is not seating properly. When you replaced the needle, did you replace the seat? Also, check your oil. Many times fuel will migrate into the crankcase, contaminating the oil. If you smell gas on the dipstick, change the oil and filter.

Thx there rivits , you cant replace the seat just the needle ,i found some new carb on ebay real cheap today & orded one gonna try that let you know wat happens, beendoing some recearch on thse nikki carbs this seems to be an ongoing problem

The kerosene could have caused the problem, but I doubt it. When you rebuilt the carb did you make sure that your set the float level properly and had the Inlet needle spring. I've attached a Kohler service manual which may help. I have rebuilt many Nikki and Keihin carbs and if done properly after a good cleaning usually solves the problem. Don't know the last time I've replaced one.

Found a new but older model carb on ebay really cheap , it has a low speed adjustment ,put it on
With new filters & gas line runs perfect and still running good today thx for the help mikey

You repaired it with a different carburetor so that is all that counts. I an afraid that I have to agree with Rivets here and the replacement carburetor wasn't necessary.

I agree that as long as it is running, that's what counts. Everyone does it differently, but I feel most carbs used on Kohlers should only be replaced as a last resort. When you are working in the repair business, you have to remember not only if the unit is fixed, but at what cost. Most of us live on repeat and satisfied customers. That is normally based on their bill.

I agree that the new carb was maybe not necessary but i only paid $30.00 for it and the previous kit was more than that also it has the adjusting screws the oldone didnt have so for me it was a no brainer
