FUEL INJECTION?

We have a Toro Timecutter w/ Kawasaki 21 hp fuel injected engine. I installed a shutoff valve in the gas line, my intention to run it out of gas for winter. I have heard that in doing so might damage the injection pump (system). I have also heard that it is a good idea to shut the gas off and run it dry. Any suggestions - YAY r' NAY about running the injection system empty?

Consult your friendly kawasaki dealer? Otherwise the dynamics of the "fuel rail" are that it is pressurized to some ?45 psi? One old drill for safely opening that line for cars was to pull the pump fuse until the engine died. That probably leaves some gas in the line, but probably not in the FI nozzles. I guess gum- up is still possible elsewhere. I use sta-bil in my cars if they are sitting for extended periods (fuel injected), but there are some who advise against it.

One other thought. Even without a "rail" and port style injector(s) there is still high pressure to the "throttle body" style injection unit. Fire hazard is high if you do not relieve the pressure before opening the system. Try to buy a factory workshop manual if available.:2cents:

Put high test gas in it with some stablelizer run it for 5 min to get it threw the whole fuel sys ..The trick is not to use to much ..It turns into a gritty sand in your fuel sys I use it but I don't use allot of it
