Free score: Vintage Bolens 8444 01

Got this for free. One side of the handle where it meets the deck is messed up. It's kinda wierd how it attaches, and didn't look at it well, so I don't know if it can be repaired. Ill post a pic of that later.

Didn't try to start it yet. It seems to turn over with the recoil, and there is oil in it, and it's not mud. No gas in the tank. Seems like she has seen some recent use, it's fairly muddy and grassy still.

Anyone see these before? What year is it? have a manual for it?

I think it's from 1973-74.
Got a Tecumseh on it.

It fired up, but stopped running right away. Carb filthy.
I think she's got more years in her, but Without welder access, I am afraid she is doomed for the garbage since the deck push bar mounts cannot be repaired by other means.

Shame.

Made in Port Washington, WI. Seems like alot of engines and mowers are (were) produced in WI.

Apparently this is a Tecumseh LEV40 engine. Anyone chime in on these? Know anything about them?
