I'm narrowing down my future ZT mower purchase to the Scag Liberty Z, DC Zee II or Hustler Raptor SD. I have been to several dealers and the prices vary quite a bit on the same models and of course my closest dealer is the highest priced...I'm wondering do most here haggle down the sticker price like on a car purchase? The different prices tell me there is some room for price adjustments. Thanks.

Be very careful, at this time of year prices vary due to the fact of inventory. Are all units the same model, the same year, the same engine??? Don't assume that all model number are the same, as engine size, manufacturer, tire size and type, plus at times accessories will change, but model numbers don't. The biggest thing that will drive prices down now are, model year, carry over inventory, model changes and how well this winter has gone. Best advice I can give you is, go slow and double/triple check the models you are looking at. If the prices vary widely, there is a reason for that, you have to find that reason.

I've been searching quite a bit in the last couple of weeks and have found that there really isn't any haggling. This is from the Big Dog Facebook page - "All pricing is set by our dealers, so pricing and promotions will vary. This allows our dealers to stay competitive in their local markets." I found one dealer close to me that has a model with a Kawasaki engine priced $400 below the other dealers for the same model with the Kohler engine. The only other break I can seem to find is paying less tax because of location on a Bad Boy. Good advice from Rivets about going slow as I'm seeing some of those subtle differences the more I dig.

Don't know how it works over there but down here, dealers have to pay for their stock on 60 , 90 or 120 days after delivery.
Thus individual dealers will offer quite random price cuts on stock that the payment is almost due on but will be fairly well intrangient on stock just received.
However once payment has been made then the price goes back to being firm

As pointed out by user Rivets, the time of year that you are shopping has a big effect on your ability to "deal" with a dealer. For 2015 leftover model deals(sometimes demos with a couple of hours and sometimes a floor model that is still brand new) you may be too late. Most dealers took delivery of the 2016 model inventory between Thanksgiving and Christmas so the previous year models go pretty quick after the first of the year. You may luck up...I hope so. Just be sure the dealer tells you that even though it is a 2015 year model, that you get the full warranty period. The other way to save(like I did) is to wait for the mowing season to wind down(mid-Sept til late Oct) and buy a remaining floor model just before the dealer is going to receive his new year model inventory. They want the floor space for the new year models and I saved over $1k(yeah, that's over $1,000) when I bought mine in mid-Sept. Good luck finding a good deal!!!!
