fastest way to cut

i have a chance to bid on several ballfieds and playgrounds for a municipality. i am looking for the fastest way to cut grass . gravely 460,hustler super z, and dixie chopper look like my best choices. mostly flat ground with bahaia grass. anybody with experience ,i would appreciate your advice. looks like it boils down to pure speed as all these mowers are going to have pretty much the same cut quality

I'd stick with a locally supported good mower shop for your supplier. I don't have any brand preference for the size of machine that you obviously need.

I agree that's good advice, a good dealer can take you a long way. The problem you'll have is cutting that Bahia. Any of the brand mowers you mentioned will do a good job Gravely, Hustler Super Z, and Dixie, you mite want to check on the Toro Line and look at one of the Z Master or maybe a Grandstand 60" cut but I really wouldn't worry about speed, the only thing that will get you is low quality cut for your work.

Everybody on here kows I am a Kubota man through and through. If you are going to have to cut Bahia and cut it fast though the Skag is going to do a better job on it From some evidence I have seen. As far as reliability and long life a Kubota ZD 326 would be hard to beat.

I have operated 3 different top brands over the years. They all will run faster than what they'll actually cut. Keeping good sharp blades on and running the longest lines possible will get the job done the quickest while still providing a quality cut.

A big issue with cutting Bahia grass is keeping the blades sharp. Bahia is one of the toughest, most abrasive grasses you will cut. Much more than St. Aug or Bermuda hybrids. I spent over 15 years cutting 4 or 5 acres of Bahia in Louisiana and Alabama. Most of the time using a 52" eXmark Z . With sharp blades and only cutting an inch of grass I could run wide open and get a nice cut. With dull blades I could still run wide open but it looked like it was cut with a weed whaker.

I agree, all three of the ZTR's the OP is considering will get the job done as fast as can be expected....but sharpening the blades before every outing will be critical to a professional looking cut!!

especially on baseball fields. i play baseball and the guys that do my home field cut fast and bad. the stripes bow all out of wack and i have seen where they have missed spots! it shows a lot to the other team on how a field is kept. they also judge the team if their field looks bad.
