I replaced the Briggs engine on a poulan push mower, with the 799983 Short block, original model # was 122t02-1207-B1.
I can keep it running by manually holding the throttle open then once I let go it dies. I made sure the governor rod was adjusted right (according to a Taryl video) main jet is clear, and carb was working when swapped over.
I’ll bet if you pull the carb you will find that the float level has dropped, causing a lean running condition.

Could be a vacuum leak.

Float was level as could be...
Cpurvis, never dealt with that kind of problem, what usually causes it...?
Bad or improperly installed gasket. On some engines, a bad o-ring. Anything that seals the intake system between the carburetor and cylinder head, including throttle shaft seals. An engine with a bad leak usually won't idle.
