engine stops

Have a Snapper Quantum XM 5hp self propelled machine. It has run strong until suddenly when it died not long after starting. I put in a new plug, air filter, cleaned the bowl, drained and put in new gas, new fuel line, new oil,etc. Don't beleive it's a compression problem because it happened so abruptly. Before this occurred it would run for a couple of hours, strongly, with intermittent stops.
I asked a small engine mechanic about it, but, he had no answers. Would it be worthwhile to take it in to a Snapper dealer? Anyway,
would anyone have any idea's about this? Thanks- MT. Rich

You may want to check the flywheel key. Does it have spark?

Could be water in the float bowl. As long as it gets gas it will run, but let a tiny amount of water get over the pickup tube and it'll sputter or die. Spray out the main pickup tube while you've got the bowl off. Check the float and needle to see if it's flowing and closing properly. Could be a piece of dirt up under the needle causing fuel starvation. Take the float and needle out and spray up in the hole. Might check the fuel inlet going into the carburetor. Spray it both ways with the needle out just in case. Other than that it's a long shot, but could be the magneto coil is getting hot and cutting out, and when cooled down will run again, then repeat the process. Hope this helps.
