Hi all,
I just got a craftsman riding mower with a Kholer engine. The engine turns on and idles fine, however when you give it a little gas, the engine revs up by itself where I have to turn it of to stop it.
I'm kind of a newbie, please be descriptive on your explanation.

Any help what it could be?

Thanks for any help before hand.

I double checked and the only sticker I see under the seat is the information I posted above.

model number: 917.252700
Serial Number: 011195C....

Found the engine model number in the user's manual.
ENGINE MODEL NO.- MV18S- PS58560

I don't see anything on the engine, maybe if I pull the covers off?

Here's your engine Service Manual site ( scroll way down to find yours.) check out the Carburetor and Governor sections sounds like you have a linkage or Governor problem.

What steps should I take to troubleshoot and find the cause? And fix it

Section #6 in manual...after carb info.

Make sure all linkages and springs are connected in the right places.

Do the simplest checks and adjustments first.

I believe it has been done, by previous owner, but I will double check and post.
