I need someone to tell me if there is a conversion table were you can fine an engine of any brand to fit a tractor. My Massey Ferguson Legacy has a ch25-68583 kohler engine in it. It was change to a ch730-0014 which they don't make either anymore. Somewhere I got a chart in kohler web site that I could use a ch740-3115 but it can't work because it has an 1 and 1/2 inch shaft and mine is 1 and 1/8. An engine dealer told me that an ch740-3165 would work. It does have the right size and length shaft but the air canister won't be able to fit under the hood and when looking it up that one is for a grasshopper. Does anybody know were I can look to find the right size replacement motor even if its not a kohler. I like to find a rebuilt one or used at a good price. I will travel to pick it up if need be. My motor is shot and need another one

Please post your tractor model number, should be 7 numbers, as well as all numbers from engine.
Kohler Engines Rebuild Replacement Kits and Parts - Repower Specialists

Information on your tractor: Lawn Tractor Manuals | Riding Mower Manual | Simplicity Mowers Scroll down and enter 1694416, click enter on keypad and scroll down page for information. Page 25 on illustrated parts page Kohler engine numbers, i'm looking at engine, 27 h.p. kohler, model CH740S, type PS-CH740-0040. By the way, what's wrong with the kohler you have in your tractor now?

try this site; has direct fit and attribute searches ...
Home - Small Engine Warehouse

for example, you can narrow your search by engine shaft type, HP, cylinder count, shaft size, etc.

You can find some really good deals on some engines there. You may have to rearrange some small ancillary stuff like throttle or choke cable position, etc. But there are many cost effective choices on that site.

Everyone's suggestions above are excellent. I replaced an engine in a Massey Ferguson 20 years ago, but like you have found, the Carb/Aircleaner and Muffler may be different shaped....I had to cut a hole in the side of the hood to make it work.
I seriously doubt that you will be able to find an EXACT replacement. Good Luck
