Model #123K02-0193
Model 120000 Quantum 6.5hp

Wanting to verify my valve clearance. On newer engine models, there appears to be a simple valve cover on the front that exposes the rocker arms. I don't see anything like that here though.

You have what is called an L head or flat head. Have to remove the head to access the valves. and remove the small cover on the side of the engine which maybe behind the muffler to access the valve springs to check clearance. Adjustment are made by removing the valves and grinding the valve stem to get the proper clearance.

One the OHV that you refer the valve clearances will open up. On an L head they will close to the point of holding the valves open slightly. But that wear resulting in the valve clearances closing takes years in most cases, And I mean years. I just did 2 L head valve jobs on 3 and 5 HP Briggs a couple of weeks ago. The newest engine was from the 70's

Attach a photo of your engine, it takes away a lot of guess work. You say newer engine, there should be a tin valve cover.

The model number the OP put in the original post is an L head engine.

Thanks a bunch. Once you explained what type of engine it is and where to look, I was able to locate a video where valve clearance is being checked on a older but similar model to get a visual idea of the process.

I think the intake valve is on top and the exhaust is on bottom like it is stated around 16:50 in the video.
