Deck will not engage

My dad has a Yard Man riding mower and the deck will not engage.

I was mowing and blades shut off my it's self. Shut of motor and restarted. Blades engaged and worked for about five minutes. I repeated this three times. Last try the blades would not come on. Dad has dementia and is unable to give me any history on mower. Any help would be great. Please keep suggestions very elementary, unsure what I'm doing.

Have you checked the belts underneath?

Like Mudface said check the belts first. Assuming electric clutch, some of the clutches are adjustable, they have three bolts/nuts with springs on them, and a slot beside the bolt. Slide a .012-.016 feeler gauge between the plates (can be hard to find the space sometimes) and adjust the nuts until you get the same clearance all the way around. If they get very far out of adjustment sometimes they will disengage after warming up.

Something else is check is make sure the battery is charging. Also make sure you have 12 volts to the two wires going to the clutch.
