My mower (Craftsman YT4500) has 6 height adjustment positions. When I got it, the mower deck would touch the floor on setting #2. The highest it would go was setting #4. So why have setting 5 to 6 or 1 to 2?
What I did was to set the height lever to 6 (highest). I then hung my deck so that at this setting the deck was as high as possible. In fact it's the mechanical limit of how high it can go. As a result, the lowest it can now go is 4. At setting #4 the deck wheels are resting on the ground. I leveled the deck at the lowest setting per the manual. The deck seems to cut fine. I cut at setting 5 normally.
I assumed the travel up and down is linear, so all I did was move the height travel relative to the lever position.
Why would there be 6 positions if the travel limits it to about 2-3? Or is my deck adjustment not a good idea? Is the travel not linear?
Could this affect belt tracking or anything else? Thanks for the help.
