Bought from individual yesterday and engine will not start unless the blades are engaged. Seems backwards and unsafe to me. Operator's manual section Testing Attachment Engagement Switch or Lever says if engine starts w/ blades engaged there is a problem with safety interlock circuit. Can anybody confirm? Info on process to correct ? Thanks

Look the board over, any fuses or relays, check those. Look for damage burns, ruptured components. If there is damage then the board will have to be replaced. If a fuse then the short or reason for the fuse going will have to be checked.

I know this is not your tractor, but same principle. Check connections by hand at backside of PTO switch & seat switch under seat. If all looks good proceed to testing switches.

Mechanic Mark,
Thanks for info. Yes MTD not my mower but I read the link in its entirety and makes sense. Will begin checking all tomorrow morning. Thanks again!
