How much end play should the two mower spindles have? Cub Cadet AGS 2140, 42" mower.

None should be noticeable, but with tapered roller bearings any wear will start showing up in up and down motion in the shaft. Since there is no way of adjusting the end play like wheel bearings on a car, you either have to replace them or live with them until they get worse and with proper grease may take years.
Slight up and down should be fine, any side to side motion should be replaced.
You can take a few thou off the spacer between the two cones
I do that with the 2000 series Cubs I service as the spindles are NLA

Thanks for the replies.
I have no way of accurately measuring endplay but as near as I can tell, it's on the order of ~.060" which is a lot for a pair of opposed tapered roller bearings.
bert, how did you remove that spacer? It's an internal snap ring, sitting in a groove on the housing.
