Craftsman Transaxle Shift in Motion

I have a Craftsman Lawn Tractor from around 1999 with a model number of 917.270513. I recently realized I could adjust the clutch/brake so the brake engages after the clutch. With the hill I mow on, it would be nice if I could drive up in a high gear, like 6th, then, as I start to slow down, shift down to a lower gear such as 2nd. However, since this is not exactly what this mower was designed to do (it says nothing about shifting on the go) I would like to know if this would work or if it will just strip my transaxle.

Good news. You have a gear trans in that mower. Bad news is you have to come to a complete stop to change gears.

As stated in above content ! see pg. 13 of this Manual, Rt. side of pg. "To Move Forward or Backward" & (below) .."IMPORTANT"

First place to look if ever you need one, they change their model availability often.
