craftsman model#917.280010 will not move in either direction
Customer Question
craftsman model#917.280010 will not move in either direction even though it is in gear. I start out with it running and mowing, then it stops moving for no apparent reason. If I sit there for a few minutes with the blades disengaged it might start moving. But then it does it again???

Lift the rear end and try to turn the wheels.
If they turn freely then the box i not locked up.
Note they will turn in opposite directions.
remove the right rear wheel and check the brake is rotating freely.

Unless we get a lot more specific information you will only get each posters "pet" problem as I have done.
So unles you want to run round and fix 20 different things that were not brokeen and still have an non functions mower tell us exatly what you were doing.
Exactly what the mower does and what sounds you hear,
Does the engine bog down when you let the brake off?
Dose the belt squeal or smoke .
Is it actually turning ?
Does the brake pedal pulsate ?
Does it travel as far as it used to ?
You are there we are in front of a screen with no concept of your reality apart from what you are telling us.

Adjust clutch per instructions page 25 in your operators manual. If you do not have manual google: Sears mower manuals. Also make sure axle keys are in rear axle shaft.
