I have a craftsman 7 horse lawn mower. Its starts fine. But once you turn it off an attempt to restarted it will not start. You have to keep trying for about a half an hour for it to start. What could the problem be?

model number information off of the engine would help to narrow down the possible causes of your problem. Just too many engines to say what the problem could be.
One other note
I just replaced, air filter, plug and oil..........using brand new gas.
But this problem has occurred before the tuneup.........it has acted this way for the last several years

I suspect you have a ready start problem but I don't know what engine you have without the model, type, and code off of the Engine Should be located above the muffler on a metal tab sticking out, or could be on the housing above the spark plug, but under the plastic pretty cover.
I now have the code from above the muffler

The model number info confirms that we don't have ready start. With that eliminated as a possible problem i suspect that you may have an ignition module heat sink issue. Next time it doesn't start, remove the spark plug, connect it to the plug wire, and hold the plug against a good ground on the engine, and have somebody crank the engine and check for spark.
Ignition module may be cutting out when the air flow over the engine stops, and the heat off the engine rises, shutting down the module.
