You need 12 volts positive on the fuel solenoid to let fuel be pulled up into the carburetor while the engine is turning. For safety i would not run the engine without a switch no way to stop engine without a switch to ground magneto wire. Also the seat switch is for your safety connect it back up.

:welcome:
Sounds to me like there is a problem in the wiring which caused your ignition switch to fail in the first place.
Connecting B + S + A1 should not cause the fuse to blow on a mower with wiring in good condition.
Next the plug shown in your attachment was not the one fitted to your mower.
There is a circuit diagram in the back of your owners manual.
If you don't have it, you can download one free of charge from Sears or a dozen manuals sites.

To help us work through your problems we need the Craftsman model number from the tag under the seat.
Most likely will be 917.???????

While the basic wiring circuit on all tractor type mowers is the same, there are subtle differences.
Some switches can simply be unpluged, some have to be jumped.
This has been done to prevent people doing exactly what you are trying to do.

When faced with a constantly blowing fuse, I fit a circuit breaker in the fuse holder then start undoing plugs one at a time till the culprit is found.

Contrary to popular belief no one has ever died because their grass was not cut, but a lot of people have died trying to do it when they should not.

And the most common reason for fuse blowing is the battery connected backwards

You have the problem.
We have nothing but what you typed in to work with. Which you have chosen to delete.
What is happening is obvious to you because you are there
We have to work it out from what is written

Try reconnecting the seat switch.
If you have a flat 4 minature blade type of plug the mower will not run with the switch disconnected.
This is why I asked for the craftsman model number
3 different seat switches could be fitted
one can simply be unpluged
another you have to jump one pair of wires
the last you have to jump both sets of wires in a particular mannar.

We can not help you if you do not help up.
And yes some of the boys have a funny sense of humour.

OTOH if you want to have a hissy fit then by all means do so.
Ball is in your court
the first response said to reconnect the seat switch .
You took that as critisism but it most likely would have had you mowing.

Jesus christ!

HE can not help you.
We can.
No grass in heaven unless you are a sheep

See I have a warped sense of humour too.
