Craftsman 6000 Lawn mower # 917.288613, 2003. peddle not releasing and it is staying flat to the floor.

You’re going to have to remove the deck, crawl under and check for the following. Broken or missing return spring, bad drive belt or idler pulleys, pinched belt. I’m betting you’ll find a return spring problem.
