Countax mower low power (slow) in reverse fine going forwards

Hi,

I have a Countax C600H mower, it's problem is that it struggles with reverse.

If there is a bit of an incline it might not move, otherwise its very slow at moving in reverse.

No problems with forward. When shifting to reverse there are no obvious noises.

I asked a mower repairshop to have a look, he told me it was the gear box. Due to the fact that it does actually go into reverse, is this right?

I'd be very grateful of any help or assistance you can give me.

Thank you for your time,

Dan.

As long as the belt tension is tight and the drive lever on the gearbox is adjusted so it gets full travel then yes it does sound like a gearbox.
Is it slow on the uphill?

I've never noticed any problem going forwards, in fact it sometimes jolts forwards quite quickly when moving off.

Backwards is slow and sometimes will not move if there's even a small incline, to the point where I'd need to rock it to help, or push with feet!

I'm not sure whether anyone has ever checked the belt or lever.

I have exactly the same issue with my Countx A20/50. Do you have any advice on how to fix?

6-year-old thread. Do not expect a response.

Your mower has a hydro drive so the only thing that can prevent it from going backwards is either the control pedal not moving all the way or internal damage to the box.
Very rare for reverse to give you grief internally so get under the mower & check that the brake is free and there is no debris preventing the speed / direction arm traveling all the way.
And for future readers could you please get back & let us know how you went ?

If this is a hydro with the large pedal for forward and the smaller pedal in the floorboard for reverse, sometimes you can pull back on the forward pedal with your toes or back of your heel and get a much better action with reverse. That linkage gets sloppy over the years.
