correct string for Stihl FS 56RC Trimmer

I haven't used this trimmer in a couple of years and I can't figure out how to replace the string. The Internet says it uses .095 string but the grooves in the trimmer head are too large for that string. This is the FS 56RC (there is no E on it). It is a straight shaft trimmer. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I think that is an old 30-2 trimmer head and if so then it uses 080"/.095"/.105" lines.

Here is the one I pulled off my trimmer, it has the .095 line. The little notches are to hold the line in position until you get it correctly in the metal eyelets and snap the cover on.

I also have a 56.If you'd try the newer C 26-2 head,you'd be so much happier.

I will second the speed feed 400. I use 095 round line. Better than any of the stihl heads IMHO.

I suppose you had those Stihl auto feed heads that advance the line every time you back off the throttle
I have replaced at least a dozen of those and talk about line wasters .

I have one of those Autocut heads. They suck.

Not me, the neighbor has a Stihl, & was fighting the head, so I recommended he swap to a Speed-Feed 400, & after he got the parts helped him swap it.

Are you trying unload any of them? I'm interested.

They are selling pretty good this year. I sell parts on e-bay. I part out new trimmers and saws.
