Float chargers have solved the problem of cooking your battery (go along with that for the moment even if you disagree). I have always been an advocate of disconnecting the battery from the rig and then attaching the float charger. However I wonder if that is even necessary these days. What are others doing or what do you recommend. Disconnect the battery or leave it connected to the electrical system, during storage while it is connected to a float charger?

As some one who worked for a battery factory I never use battery tenders or other such devices as they are easily fooled into believing a dead flat battery is fully charged ( same with smart chargers )
Thus I have a dumb charger hooked up to a timer so the battery gets 15 minutes of charging one day a week

I use 10 cheap float chargers on batteries. I don't disconnect the batteries.
