I bought 2 new belts because 1 had broke and the other was brittle. Put the 2 new ones on started mowing and 15 minutes later they both broke. I put everything back exactly where it was. Is this a clutch problem ? Signed have no clue. just through away 25.00 on 2 belts.

Did you purchase OEM Grasshopper belts? You have an expensive piece of equipment and should always replace with original manufacturer parts. Check idler pulleys and spindles for wear, and be sure to grease spindles as well as all grease fittings on mower. My guess is you did not purchase OEM belts at 2 for $25. Mower belts have a different pitch, angle if you will, and much different than automotive belts in order to handle stress, torque, tension, heat, and high rpm's.

Yes, I bought them from the Grasshopper dealer where I purchased the mower, they were 35 for the pair. I will go pick up a couple more and talk to their mechanic. I will also grease everything. Thank you for your response.
