Hello all . I have a champion 3500 watt generetor/inverter that is backfiring but not running . I cleaned the carb and reassembled .
Now it won't start but backfires thorough the carburetor. So it's getting spark, fuel and air.
Why is it backfiring??? Please help

Valves or sheared flywheel key. Pull the valve cover off and have a look-see.
Hi thanks for the reply. I looked at the valves they seem to be working fine. This thing seems to have a stator type flywheel assembly. i don't see a key unless it's behind the stator type assembly that is in place a of a fly wheel
backfiring thru the carb can also be a plugged exhaust, anti-spark screen etc.. When someone suggested checking the valves, they meant checking the gaps against specifications. I would think a sheared flywheel key would be unusual on a generator since it is rare it would come to such a sudden stop to shear that key. If you live near James Condon, take it to him.

Are you sure the intake valve is closing fully, and the rocker arm is loose enough to move slightly? Not sure what you are looking at as the flywheel. It is under the shroud where the pull start is located. And with the backfiring, it certainly could shear the flywheel key. It is extremely unlikely it is an exhaust issue.
