have 1440 briggs engine will start but run for 5 sec and stop .have fuel to carb have any ideas

Does it have the low oil shutoff. Bolts into the lower crankcase, and if the oil level is too low can cause a no start or short start situation.

oil is full-- engine will start and run smooth but only for about 4- 5 second then run out fuel resev on carb fullof fuel and floats working

When it starts to die, does it sputter around first, or acts like you shut it off. If it acts like you shut it off, could be ignition related.

no sputtering shuts down like runs out of fuel carb full of fuel will restart an do the same thing

Starting to sound like you may be loosing fire to the spark plug. do you have a way to check the spark while the engine is running, to determine if you are loosing fire when it starts to die. Try changing plugs and see what happens.
