Can men multitask?

#1

The common belief is men cannot multi task. To some extent, I think it is true but is there anything to back this?

For example, can you mow and talk on the phone simultaneously?

The question is sexist, your statement has sweeping generalizations and is somwwhat inflamitory. I suspect you knew that when you posted it as this is the "Lawn Mower Forum". I would never consider starting a thread that may reflected on a womans intelect, as every woman is different, that explains why I am so enamured with them.
I 've often thought of myself as someone who can do several things at once but it occured to me several years ago that it's more efficient to focus on one thing at a time, and do it correctly once. Then, after that task is complete move to the next. What good is it to run around doing 4 things at one time just so you can watch "Oprah", "Dr. Phil" or "Dancing with the Stars"? It's far more rewarding to complete a task correctly and efficiently, a result of proper planning and design.
I always draw on this comparison. An example a man would understand much easier than a woman:
You want to purchase a boat but you're not sure what knid of fishing you are going to enjoy most. All you really know is that you want to catch fish from your boat. You're not qualified to make the correct decision because you are not exerienced in the art (the art of fishing, yea it's an art). So you get in a hurry and buy the boat that is supposed to do both, a compromise if you will.
What you wind up with is the boat that won't fish shallow water or deep water very well at all. It will get you there, a multi-tasker' yes indeed, but not like it's supposed too. So you wind up fighting the boat instead of the fish.
After a season or 2 your priorities shift to wood working or hunting (certainly not tennis or line dancing). The boat sits on the trailer and you think about your mistake, sell the boat, lick your wounds and learn your lesson.
Show me a multi-tasker and I'll show you a poor planner:biggrin:

I did not intend to be inflammatory neither have I ever looked down upon anyone's intellect. I rephrased the question, in order not to look insensitive.

Hope it has some bit of significance now and in that case, I am a poor planner.

I can multi task, but I know other women who cannot, I also know men who can and men who can't. I think it is individualized rather than broken down by gender. I can't skate, doesn't make me a bad person when compared to someone who can skate.

Sure I can multitask. I can eat Oreos and ice cream at the same time. In fact, I prefer them that way.

I see my boyfriend do is all the time. I know for a fact that this is not true. People like to think they can't but they can just like women. We're really not all that different.

I can ride my 3200 pound tractor, mowing and navigating our tree filled lot, even with the FEL installed, and not hit anything, while web surfing with my Blackberry at the same time. I bet websurfing requires more concentration than talking on the device. Especially if you are on a really interesting site. (like this one)

Ooh yes, not at all based on gender, as you say. That is really true. Doing 5 things at a time, lol. Do you also manage to divide your energy equally?

That's a thumbs up!!

Good to see this take a lighter hearted turn, it is most definitely not a topic to be one sided, both sexes should be talked about evenly.
