Can I change out a Kohler 17 HP to a 20 HP no problem?

My 17 HP Kohler Courage was run with no oil in it for a about 1 Minute. After I figured it out I put oil in it and it ran great for a couple weeks with no problems. It did after 2 weeks throw a rod and destroyed most of the inner workings. It is cheaper to get the 20 HP Kohler Courage than a 17 HP (seems like they don't make them anymore?). Is there anything else I need to get to make sure it works with my 17 HP motor setup? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

Well the 16 cylinder dual radial engine will be a tight fit and the horizontal opposed will foul on the hood.

Come on sunshine how the hell do you expect to get an answer to a question like that ?
Which 17Hp engine did you cook ?
What 20Hp engine are you trying to fit ?
What are you thinking about fitting it into ?

The busted one is a 17 HP Kohler Courage SV471. The new one will be a 20 HP Kohler Courage SV601. Its going into a Troy Built Bronco. I will see if I can pull anymore info after work.

Looks to be the same basic engine family. Should be a bolt in deal. But there's always that little thing.......
