This BX1870, which I know very little about, has started to run a little less powerfully and has a rough start condition after I have mowed an hour or so. The starting deal is weird. After an hour or so of mowing, if I kill it and restart immediately or in less than 3-5 minutes, no problem. If I wait several minutes to restart the tractor, it will stumble and belch black smoke. It will fully clear itself of that within about 15-20 seconds. I've used it enough now to know when it does this and "recovers", it has a very slight but discernible stumble as compared to a first start and idle. Not sure about the time, however, after 30 minutes or so of sitting, all is well once again.
Though not noticeable on flat terrain, it also has a bit of a loss of power when mowing up a long, slight grade. No idea as to it being a fuel issue, filters, etc. I did learn the diesel I've been using this mowing season has been from a tank contaminated with gasoline. I have definitely run a tank full of pure diesel since then with no improvement. I'm in the middle of a second tank full of clean diesel. I hope it's only a filter or both filters. I have been planning on doing my newly - learned "upgrade" of the Racor 120AT Fuel Filter/Water Separator. That seems to make good sense for anyone performing their own maintenance. Any thoughts or suggestions is welcome. Thanks.
