I currently own an old AMC ride on mower ( Briggs & Stratton engine). It is on its last gasp with one wheel missing and the deck buckled from hitting yet another rock. The local repairer tells me that parts are no longer available. I live on 4 acres and currently mow approximately 2/3rds of it. It is a fairly steep block in places and the ground is quite rocky. The really tricky bits get brushcut.
So far I have looked at a Snapper LT2342 and a Husqvana YTH2242TDRF. I have not found many reviews, so would appreciate input from some mower gurus regarding reliability, warranty satisfaction, and service headaches. I am certainly no mechanic and am happy to pay for something that lasts without completely breaking the bank!
Those are both rather light duty Lawn mowers... I do not think either will leave you happy mowing the rougher areas you may want to mow... If you keep to only mowing lawns... Either will likely do the job but with nearly 3 acres to mow it is going to be tough on a lawn mower... especially with Rocks large enough to buckle the deck on your old machine...
The nice thing I see with the Husqvarna.. it has a locking rear axle... may be handy on your hills... But the deck & deck spindles are not built for much punishment...
As to warranty, I see your Red Shed outlets have a free 12 mth extended warranty .. http://www.melbournesmowercentre.co...rna-ride-on-mowers/free-extended-warranty.php
How is warranty work down under?
Hope you find something that will hold up... but I think for your more severe use you should be looking at more of a commercial machine... something with a welded up Heavy plate steel deck, rather than a light stamped deck... also a 3 blade system will not have as much force back on the spindles as a 2 blade deck...
If your budget is a big factor look for Good Used equipment.... post back with what you end up choosing . :smile:KennyV
Will have to stay away from the rough stuff and breaking new ground. I'm sure the deck of the AMC is buckled from MANY rocks over the years. Those rocks just grow so well here! This was just the last straw. Thanks for the warning, I need to be more aware of the high expectations I put on the mower. I just get carried away thinking "I'll mow just a little bit more"
I am aware of the extended husqvana warranty. However, I have read a few adverse reviews about some items not being covered. My local service provider is pretty good.
I'd be tempted to get a good used (commercial) machine. I don't know what brands you have available to you, but 3 or 4 phone calls to lawncare outfits in your area will tell you what works, and who's satisfied with their service shop.:smile:
