I'm putting this out there in the hopes that someone else has had this problem and can help me as Briggs & Stratton cant give me the answer.

We have hundreds of Husqvarna rideon mowers with the Briggs & Stratton 44 series Endurance engine on in our market. When we receive the rideon mower or a replacement engine it has an air filter with reinforced mesh like the one below.

The part number on the air filter and what comes up on the IPL is 792105.

So we order 792105 and receive an air filter without the reinforcing mesh. If we fit these air filters they end up collapsing and then they don't seal and allow dirt to be ingested in to the engine.

Has anyone had this problem? Do you know of an alternate part number we can order as the 792105 is no working. Strangely the non-original / pirate filter comes with reinforcing mesh. But all these units are new and under warranty so we have to use the original parts, which at this point seems detrimental.

Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

As you probably know, the filter is being crushed by over tightening the canister hold down screw. This is not a warranty problem, but a customer education problem. I am not at work to check, but have to looked at Briggs number #102008. Just a question, what problem are you seeing that you are replacing air filters under warranty?

Thanks for the reply. The air filter in not held on by a screw on this engine. It is held in place by the cover which has a cam type latch. This is causing the filter to crush.

We are not replacing the filters under warranty. The engine are still within warranty period and are being serviced with genuine parts. However the genuine air filters we are being supplied are failing and and allowing dirt ingestion.

I am the technical manager for a Briggs& Stratton CSSD in South Africa and the client who is experiencing the problem is Husqvarna South Africa. This is definitely not a customer education problem it is most definitely a product (792105 - air filter) design fault. The 792105 air filter may work in other application with different retainer systems but in this one it fails.

What gets me is that the engine comes with a reinforced filter that works but the replacement filter of the same pat number is different as is failing.

I will order the 102008 and see if it will work.

Thanks again for your reply and input. Greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the air filter housing, a few years ago we did see some distorted housings that would not allow the filter to fit down into the base. Would you post the numbers for this engine?

I just went and pulled my stock of 792105 to see what I had, and what they look like. it appears that the 792105 with the blue rubber seal had the reinforced wire mesh, they newer 792105 with the black seal does not. It appears that the change happened sometime between 2010 and 2012.

Hi ILENGINE,

That makes sense as the code date on the engine are 10 (2010) and they all have black rubber. The new filters purchased now are blue and not working on these engines. And we have 2000 in stock... ouch.

Briggs & Stratton can not give us the answer so we left to resolve the problem ourselves.

The non original filters come with the mesh and for the first time ever I would suggest we use the non original filters over the original filter.
