Briggs and Stratton stopping

So last month, I got my first lawn mower?. It ran like a beauty, but after about 30 minutes of use, it revved up, then down a few times before stopping. I went back to Home Depot, and they were kind enough to replace it for free! Well, the same thing happened after about 40 minutes this time!! I am tired of having to go to Home Depot, so if I could get help, that would be great! Thanks

Get clean non ethanol gas and take that one back and start new. Clean out your gas can first. If you can not get non ethanol fuel get fresh fuel and add an ethanol remover. You need at least 89 octane when you remove ethanol. That way it will stay with a high enough octane to run.

He may have water or contamination in his gas can but as much as some of you guys like to blame ethanol not even it will affect an engine that quickly.

Oh, I thought I didn't have to worry about gas. The box said it was prefilled.

I don't have a piece of metal to check the oil. Is it okay if I put a piece of fabric in there?

Do you have a dip stick?

Im guessing you got a mower with old flat head Briggs engine, if the oil fill is down low on engine with a small screw off cap you just fill it till you see oil about half way up threads.
If oil cap is even with top of engine DO NOT do the above, it should have metal dip stick like a car has.
If you could give us a picture it would help.

I don't think so, so can I use a piece of fabric instead?

No you can not use anything except what came with mower. You have the manual use it. It will tell you exactly where and how to check oil. It is brand new and has a dipstick. You need to get us the make and model of the engine. We can not help you with out it.

Thank you, gainestruk, but what BlazNT is saying is confusing me. He says that I need to give you guys the make and model, but then says he will not help! Also, when we got the mower, my wife got rid of the box, and I think the manual was in it...

No I said we can not help without it. We can find everything with the numbers but can not do much if you do not get us the model number off the mower and engine. We should be able to get you the manual with the numbers.
