Briggs and Stratton 18.5 HP OHV Engine failure. Only 5 years old.

Does it appear Briggs and Stratton has problems on their Sears Craftsman Mowers with the 18.5 HP OHV engine?

Not that I know of. Have not seen any major problems come thru the shop.

what about camshaft failure-specifically the MCR breaking off?

It depends what you consider engine failure. As far as the camshaft compression release problem, there are a few out there but is not as widespread as people make it sound. Even if there is about 1000 a year, that comes out of more than a million engines build every year.
