Brand new Honda HRR216VKA - Rear Wheels don't spin backward freely

Good Evening,

I just bought this mower tonight at Home Depot and got it home, out of the box, and all set up. Fired up on the first pull and I just did a test strip in my front yard. Everything seemed great, until I tried to pull it backward with the drive off. The wheels wouldn't spin freely, as they were completely locked up. So I shut it down and set it on it's side - I rotated the rear wheels forward freely and they seemed to ratchet as they spun, but as soon as I reversed them and tried to spin them backward, they immediately locked up (seemingly intentionally, as in a mechanical locking). There's no way this is right, as there are so many situations where you have to pull your mower back and reverse course to adjust. Is something wrong with the mower, to the point that I have to return it, or can I adjust the Smart Drive cable, or the controls, or...?

Would appreciate any input - thanks in advance!

David

IMO i would return it and get a new one, that way u know u will not have anymore problems in the future if it is more than just an adjustment
