Blower leaking gas from carb

I recently picked up a redmax EB431 that needed a new primer bulb. I replaced the bulb and primed it and it immediately started pouring gas out of the carb. When I opened the gas cap it stopped and started right up. Any ideas why this would happen?

Didn't happen to reverse the lines on the new primer did you The long nipple goes to the tank, and if reversed can cause the issue that you are seeing. Could also be the metering diaphragm isn't working or the diaphragm valve isn't sealing

I don’t think I reversed them but both lines go into the tank I thought? If you could elaborate I would really appreciate it.

Take both lines off of the carb.
Put your finger over one of the carb ports.
Prime the carb.
Is your finger sucked in or pushed out ?
If it is sucked in, that's the hose to the filter in the tank.
If not, that's the return.
Also the vent cap could be bad.
If the tank gets pressure in it you will have the problem you described
You said it ran good without the cap on the tank.
