blades won't engauge

Hustler 52" fastrac , pull the button to engauge blades, belts started smoking. Checked blades an pulleys all turn freely. Mower starts an drives fine what next, clutch? Thanks n advance, Matt
 
FYI,
I'm not sure if you are aware of it but Excel Ind. has issued two recalls for Hustler. One is for seat safety switch and the other for fuel tank.
 
If the belt is smoking then a pulley is not turning or the belt is rubbing on something.
If belt was just put on it could be routed wrong.
Maybe on the wrong side of a guide pin.
