Blade spindle look right?

I just started to change the blades on my 54" Husqvarna riding mower. Seems to me the star shaped shaft is too short doesn't seem to even catch the blade. Is this normal? I'll try to attach a pic.

Looks like someone has put the blades on and did not put the blades on to match the star pattern. Ruining the blade shaft

Can it be pushed or pulled back?

I have done some light grinding/repair work on the starts in some cases, but that star looks too far gone, and will require a replacement shaft. Just don't attempt to remove the spindle housing from the deck unless you want to replace the entire spindle because the mounting bolts will break off if you attempt to remove them.

Extra attention needs to be taken when mounting blades to those spindles.

Hello R.,

Replace the spindles and install new blades that have to correct star pattern. I typically get deck spindle and blade kit off of eBay and have had no issues.

Here is an example, but make sure it is correct for your mower deck:

The thread shoulders on the blade holding bolt look pretty bad too. like the blade has been rotating on them. I'd consider replacing that too.

Thank you all. I have purchased a new spindle mandrial. Got the old one off with no issues.
