Looking for advice here. I have 5 yards I mow that are about 1/4 acre each and are sloped in the 30 degree range. I am currently using a john deere 1023 with a 60" 7 iron deck. No problem with pulling hills etc. The problem is with the cut, it cuts lower on the down side and is uneven. Most of the problem seems to be with the larger deck on hills as it cuts perfect on level flatter ground. Most of the yards I mow are weed fescue mixes...so not real delicate. I have used a 36" Exmark Metro walk behind on this same terrain, but at Approx 600lbs it is too heavy to handle and slides downhill, cuts good though. Does anyone have any experience with the new Exmark 30" on hills? Any suggestions as to what mower would work best? Something at least 30in and light weight.

i am really careful on hills on my ztr.....hustler or big dog have the lowest center of gravity imho if you are running ztr on a hill....roll bar up and seat belt on...i try not to cut uphill because the weight is in the rear....side to side or diagonal

Actually the best mower for steep terrain would be a Stander of some type, The Toro Grandstand, Exmark Vantage, or the Wright, all three will have the lowest center gravity of any mower and even at that on any hill or grade you should always mow across the slope starting at the bottom and working your way to the top always turning up the slope at the end of every pass. If I had a 30 degree I use my Turf-Master 30" that or the Exmark 30" you asked about.

Put a couple more pounds of air in your tires and it will not cut short on the low side.
