Here is a load of Longleaf Pinestraw I had a guy bring me loose and I baled it for resale.

What do you use it for? Ive never heard of pinestraw being used here in southern ri.

In the south, some people use it for mulch. Not up where we live, though. I never heard of it until this forum.

Thats the old baler right? I've always thought pine needles were acidic and bad for grass and flower beds. I was just checking around the net and found out thats a myth. Well, it's probably isn't good for grass People who should know say its a great mulch. Live and learn :thumbsup:

Hmm, thats different. Using pinestraw for mulch. we just burn them here. an in the wood stove we burn a few so it smells "christmasy" during the holidays

Pine straw is a cheap way to dress up large beds. At only $3 a bale. I think it looks like sh it when people just toss it down.
We do not call it mulch it is pine straw and used to make pine straw beds.

It does not hurt the grass. What people don't get is the leaves and pine Needles fall for a few of reasons.
1 so the tree can hibernate in the winter.

2 to be a blanket to protect the grass and smaller plants from the winter cold and frost.
Every plant has a purpose for being here and for what they do.

3 to provide the nutrients the soil needs to promote growth.

4 along with pine cones and nuts to grow new trees.

5 just to give us something to clean up and bitch about.

I have a customer here who pays me to bring a load of needles she uses them to dress her beds she says she doesn't have to use weed killer the needles act as a preemergent
