If you are looking for a good battery that will last, get the LOWEST RATED CCA value you can find. Plates will or could be thicker lasting longer till the battery dies on you. Tractor batteries are the best you can find. They get bounced around in fields and will start for a couple years off the charger.
Plate sizes do not vary according to the CCA of a battery
Plate numbers do the plates are all the same
It costs too much to cast different thickness plates fr different ratings on the same size battery.
The separators do vary in thickness but they are an extrusion that gets cut to length so very cheap to have it in several thicknesses .
Mower batteries, tractor batteries & marine batteries have thicker plates than car batteries because they take a beating and the end users do not ave the volume to power to demand a light weight battery like car makers can do .
Sealed batteries are better than open cell batteries.
AGM batteries are better still
PVR & AGM batteries are the second best
Spiral cell batteries are by far the strongest mechanically but also the most expensive
