I have a John Deere mower about 5 years old. We replaced the battery spring of 2018 and it was dead by spring this year. The dealership replaced battery again. Dead again. Called the dealership.
Battery warranties good for 6 months so they are no help. Is this normal for the electric start models?

Could be the alternator isn't charging the battery. If you have a volt meter , while the engine is running put + lead to + an - to - you should get a reading of at least 13volts. And then with everything off, take a reading.
Most walk behind lawn mower engine are not equipped with a charging system, they use an external charger. How often do you charge the battery? Also, have you checked to see if your charger is actually charging, most should be charging at 13-14 V.
