I have a B & S 16 HP V Twin, MO. # 303777 it is on my JD LT 166 Mower, it had been running fine, today it started up, then acted like it was running out of gas, I choked it and it restarted, but died just as soon as it started, I removed the in line fuel filter, had good flow of gas to the filter, put a new filter, the filter is just before it goes into what I think maybe a fuel pump on the right hand side of the motor, just above the Valve cover, I let it set for a hour, it started right up ran fine for maybe 10 or 15 sec, then shut down just like I turned the gas off, if I try restart the motor, it just spends over, if I wait a hour or so it will start & died, There is a small hose going from the Valve Cover to What looks like it May be a fuel Pump,

Do the fuel pumps go out, is there a diaphragm in there that I can change, how about that short Hose, between Valve cover & this Thing that I am Questioning about, what part do it play, is it a drain, or a Vac. Hose

Thanks for Any Help that You'll can give this Old Man

There is a simple check to see if the fuel pump is working. Remove the hose from the carb and have someone start the engine, or at least turn it over, and see if fuel is being pumped into a glass bottle. If fuel is being pump into the bottle, the pump should be OK. If no fuel is being pumped out, the pump is probably bad. It cannot be repaired, but must be replaced. The hose going from the valve cover to the pump is the pulse line, which works the pump.
