B&S 5.5 550 engine

I have a fairly new 5.5 550 edger that started to smoke out of the exhaust and does not like to run. Oil level is perfect. Took plug out and belt off and turned over but stiff. Popped head off, same thing. No scores in cylinder. Any ideas on tight engine?

adjust valves with engine cold per engine manual specs., fresh gas with a quality fuel treatment per directions on bottle, since you removed head warranty will probably be void, let us know how it goes.
