Ariens Ikon 52 Handle issue

HAs anyone run into a problem with the handles being hard to get out of park? My 72 y/o MIL can't pull them in when they fully lock in park. I can, but it is a pretty hard jerk needed. Any helpful tips? Thanks-

Try some lube on the pivots
Note WD 40 is not a lubricant

Thought about that, but was worried it would just get gommicked with grass and dirt sticking to the lube
