Ariens 1028 ignition key stopped starting mower

I bought a used 1028 the key worked to start the mower several times the stopped completely. Any ideas what may be the cause of the problem???

Was meant for his post not yours.
But anyways what he is saying is it would start when he turned the key now it won't.

I would not know this if I did not live in the south for so long.
