Is there much interest in the Americas cup yacht race? team New Zealand won the Louis Vitton cup & is now challenging Oracle team USA, for the Americas cup in Sanfrancisco. The first team to win nine races wins the cup, so far team New Zealand leads with 4 wins so far.
everyone here in N.Z. is supporting our team to bring the cup back here to New Zealand once again, next race on friday (thursday your time)

Not really. If the USA team were to win a race, they might get honorable mention on the evening news. The sports media here is currently focused on american football. It's amazing technology that yacht racing has now days though. You guys in NZ ever see any Red Roo mowers or equipment?

Usually Americans on the coast will find sailing interesting. Inland Americans for the most part are in a self-induced coma over football. Me? I wouldn't miss either one of them, but hope New Zealand wins the CUP! nascar racing aggravates my vertigo and I can't see what people find interestng in cars going round and round on an oval track sometimes playing bumper cars at speeds over 140mph!

Yes the Red Roo is from Austrailia. Their bult in (sp?) Itawumba. Some of the family that built Yazoo lawnmowers back here in the states are involved in Red Roo. I've got a Red Roo catalog and they have several pieces of equipment they build. It looked like some good looking heavy duty stuff. Since they've taken Speed channel off the air, can't keep up with Nascar much anymore. I love to go sailing on the Gulf coast near Ft. Walton Bch. Florida. Always rent a keel boat and it's a lot of fun. Thanks!!!

I disagree about the lack of interest... there is something to the lack of interest in the non_boating public... but Yes I have been glued to it. New Zealands team has been the most impressive! I am pulling for team oracle, however they have dug a huge hole. I think the format for the challengers enabled team NZ to gain valuable experience that has showed in every area, boat design, teamwork (better tacking) and confidence. Team Oracle better step it up or they will lose. this series is the 1st to have a chance at giving the avg viewing public a sports event that can capture their interest... I hope it does.

I grew up sailing on the great lakes. And it amazes me that a lot people that live in these sailing town have little or no interest in sailing at all.

As far as the cup, I haven't paid attention since Dennis conners on stars and stripes

I still have a piece of plastic from the hull of stars and stripes, it was on a trailer heading cross county when a police buddy of my friend saw it and called him, we went out in the middle of the night to look at it. 3M had developed a special coating that they used on the hull to make it more slippery... it was damaged so I peeled off a piece. I realize most of the people on this forum would think I am crazy ... but it was cool at the time. My brother in law just came back from san franciso, he said there was not much interest there to go an watch the races. However it looks like from the TV coverage that the crowds have finally showed up once the cup races finally started.
