Check the oil level, see if it smells like gas. Remember Honda mower engines, the oil level is checked WITHOUT screwing the dipstick back in, just resting on top of the fill tube. Very unusual problem for Honda engines.
A little puff of smoke on start-up is very typical, at least in my experience with the 6 Hondas I’ve had. The smoke disappears in less than a minute. How bad is it smoking?
