A decision for the Mods and Administration

Due to the religious propaganda by Chosen, I have determined one of two things need to happen. Either the religious statements can cease or my name can be struck from the membership roster. Please notify me of your decision soon.

Thank you

I'm an atheist. I don't mind the Jesus is coming signature. Everybody is entitled to there signature. It's America!!! Just don't post or comment about Jesus and all shall be well.
Wonder what Muslim Mohammed thinks?!?!? Haha!!!! He is in charge of this site?

#9

Freedom of speech? If somebody has a "Jesus is coming" bumper sticker, do you stop driving to avoid seeing it?

I'm inclined to administer the forum along the lines of what the majority of the membership wants. If that includes a ban on some content, then so be it. But I can tell you that it's a can of worms that will never get closed.

As near as I can tell the individual hasn't broken any forum rules that I can find and as you say everybody is entitled to there signature. As scott47429 said he's not preaching, no one is asking everyone go to church, its just a quote that he happens to live by and he is not asking anyone else to live by it so personally I don't see a problem.

This is the United States of America, and if my recollection of history taught to me in grade school is correct, a couple of the foundations of this country were set upon freedom of speech and freedom of religion. While I may never intend to put anything of that sort in my own signature, I do respect the member who has for his devotion to his beliefs and applaud his strength in sharing them with the world, and I will defend his right to do so.

Jesus is coming. Do you have the balls to be ready?

I see you omitted a very important part of the phrase " are you ready"?
Try putting the complete phrase on the bumper.

To me this is saying Chosen thinks he is ready and it may be questionable, for anyone reading that statement, if they are as ready as he is. So if you aren't following his religious beliefs you probably aren't ready and never will be.

This is all I have to say on the subject. The decision concerning my original post is yours and I would appreciate a public notification on the forum one way or the other.

Also agree, This is a "LawnMower" location...
I personally do not care to see folks inject religion, politics or any other sanctimonious nonsense in my day.
I had been a bit put out with the inclusion of a religious reference on our currency, until it was pointed out that it was actually a facetious remark, as demonstrated over & over by our Federal Reserve.
That and other religious phrases are generally used to separate people rather than to unite them. So any timee they can be reduced I'm in favor...
It's like most other things that people often 'claim' to believe in, If you feel a need to repeat it over & over, you are likely trying to convince yourself.
Now if something included is meant to be humorous or funny... Not a Problem. But even that might become offensive to some, so again, leaving religion and political ideologies OUT of these Forums is probably the Best... :smile:KennyV

I think you may need to take a look at Muhammad's post again because it's like he said you're going to open a can of worms that will never get closed. This forum and the Administration has been a pretty lenient for the the most part on things considered infringing or offensive, obscene or unacceptable and it's practice of editing it's material. To me it would be a shame to throw it and its atmosphere all away because of a couple of members that don't like a religious quote that as Muhammad says you see everyday on someones bumper driving down the road.

As I said before as near as I can tell the individual hasn't broken any forum rules that I know of and is entitled to there signature, but if you and a few others want the editing practices to take place I'm sure that Muhammad can accommodate you but keep in mind that this forum could become very uncomfortable as well as unpopular place for the other 22000 plus members it can effect.

Is our society becoming too PC? :confused2: I don't think anyone was trying to offend anyone, just stating what on their mind. Freedom of speech is a great thing.

I think the vote is a good thing but I have a Question, If you start Banning or censoring all religious content, what will be next. I hope it doesn't create a slippery slope as they say in Washington and evolve into something else that some want too whine about.

Thing is, we are here on this site to learn or to help others with problems & sometimes just for fun, we should not let the small stuff bother us as we are a mix of people from all over the place. Some may think my signature is offensive though it is just humor to me, if we let this problem bother us we as individuals have but a couple of choices. Lets keep this site fun and valuable & be friends. :2cents: I belong to several forums, some for many years, but I consider this my favorite because of the friendly helpful people who take time out of their lives to help others for no monetary gain what so ever.

Perhaps You should take a look at My post again... I think most folks 'got' what I said.

All forums are edited to some degree. For the most part the members of this forum are very civil, there are No "cry babies" that come to mind... and by not allowing any individual the opportunity to bring the discussions to a halt, is Good.

BY the way: Some day we may have 220000 plus members... (and most of them will always get along). But as of now we have:Lawn Mower Forum Statistics
Threads 13,659 Posts 100,207 Members 23,440 Active Members 5,843

Sorry I added one to many zeros, not really use to this key board it sure isn't my Lap Top. As far as the forum statistics go there are actually 22508 members although the forum statistic's don't reflect it.

Here's another quote for this thread:

"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. "

You hit the nail on the head with that quote. How true it is.
If someone adds their feelings, beliefs or ideas in addition to the forums pertinent subject matter they were addressing I have no problem with that. Other than demeaning, evil or vulgar subjects I say let it go. If you ban one thing what is next? I feel secure enough with my beliefs and ideas that other people expressing their's does not upset me. If you feel so strongly that you are upset with what someone expresses or believes why not engage in a friendly debate. Maybe you may not be able to do this though if you are insecure in your own beliefs or ideas. However you feel, the mentality of taking your toys and going home as an alternative is silly at best. That only denies you from participating in the free flow and exchange of information and knowledge from this forum. Just my :2cents:

By the way this forum is authoritarian, whatever the administrator decides is the policy we participate by. :ban:

I guess the voting is about over and I Guess the No vote has it or at least it appears that way, which means we will be allowing members to have there religious quotes and references in there signature files and allowing religious discussions in the off topic forum.

I suppose I've never seen a voting booth run so crooked. A YES vote is a NO and a NO vote is a YES.

If anyone falls for this I have some ocean front property for sale.

Bye Bye

And please take my email that was never sold or given away off the list.

The thing I find interesting is that you had 182 members view the pole and only 18 voted. The results so far is 16 to 2 which indicates the content to be allowed. Now you would think there would be more votes when considering this thread has seen 648 views and that would indicate to me that people just don't care one way or the other. As far as the pole being crooked, that just sounds like someone who didn't like the outcome.

Seriously? Grow the frick up. You have the FREEDOM to leave the forum or CHOICE to ignore any comments you disagree with. Don't you have anything better to do than whine about someone's comment? Seriously!

#32

BKBrown

BKBrown

I read most of the posts, but not every one, so it is possible I missed something. I believe it is possible for individuals to ad other members to their ignore list and then you would not see their posts. If someone posts things you do not want to see, put them on your ignore list.

You can regulate what you see. You make a choice what offends you.

Well guys I read this thread and don't seem to see any posts by the OP(SandburRanch) above since 4/18/13. Looks like he made good on his threat to leave and the topic can be closed. I, unlike user American Turf, am not an atheist which may be why I'm not as confrontational or quick to judge and denounce others opinions. That statement is purely based upon the posts I have read on these forums authored by him, some of those direct attacks on my opinions. Even the Forum Administrator does not agree that banning religious statements is something that his leadership has instructed him to do.

Well I don't think his leaving should be taken to heart, I don't believe he will be gone long. Carscw and Kenny both agreed with SandburRanch but I don't see them leaving in a huff and American Turf is expressing his feelings and that's fine because he and they are entitled to do so just like the individual with the religious signature is entitled to do so, isn't that what this thread is actually about?

I'm sorry if members choose to leave over my decision to not impose more rules on the membership than we have over the past three years. There may very well come a time when the forum needs a policy about certain content, but I don't think we're there yet. I trust that you guys will let me know if such measures become necessary. There are already too many posts for me to read every day so there will be topics that come up, get discussed, and I never even see them. :ashamed:
